The remainder of this article provides some pointers for closing the deal well, so you can enjoy the creation phase and the muralist can enjoy creating a masterpiece for your home.
Be very hesitant about negotiating the final price.
Please do not attempt to negotiate the final quote if you are only looking at one muralist or have all ready verbally or in writing agreed to hire a particular artist. Do your homework first. Remember you are receiving a truly original piece of art work with touches that you help capture. This is not the time to become cost sensitive. Also, keep in mind that many of the muralists you are contacting are individual business owners and professionals. If you cannot afford the muralists you find either look further or look at alternative wall decor like custom wallpaper murals or art prints. Either can be a beautiful alternative, until you reach the point of being able to afford a custom mural. By following this guideline, you will insure you are hiring a motivated not a coerced artist. Coercion thwarts creativity, your mural is painted by creativity.
Contact all muralists in a timely manner to let them know of your final decision.
You do not need to reveal who you selected to paint the mural, except of course to the muralist you selected!! Instead, thank them for taking the time to quote your project and provide them some positive affirmation on their work. If you feel inclined, provide them a couple of points of feedback on why you did not select them. For example, maybe their location was a deterent or possibly the detail was too low in their initial sketches. Your feedback can help them improve. As a suggestion, do not become critical of their actual style of art. Although you may have grown to not like their work, others may find it absolutely wonderful. That is the subjective nature of art at work. So stick to objective feedback; location, cost, contract, or experience.
Pay the initial payment agreed upon in your signed contract.
Set the date to begin work and complete work.
Sit back and wait with anticipation your completed work of art!!
