How to Paint Wall Murals
How to Paint Murals; Ideas and Techniques
Artistic Ability Not Required
Artistic ability is not required to have fun with painting murals. On this page of atHome Wall Murals, we are going to take a look at some ways the artistically challenged folk, like myself, can paint a wall mural. As mentioned during the introduction to
"Do It Yourself Murals", you must enter this project with appropriate expectations. To summarize, if you don't feel you have artistic ability don't expect a masterpiece, but do expect to have some fun! If you want a masterpiece, than check out the Muralist Directory for a list of artists who would be happy to create a masterpiece for you.
So how can you create wall murals? I would like to look at a few possible techniques and allow you to determine which would be right for you.
- Paint by Numbers Wall Murals
Paint by numbers kits have been popular among people just starting out with art. The principle of paint by number can be used for wall murals. Some companies, I will show you a few, provide paint by numbers kits for murals. However the vast majority of prints are still in the canvas size kits which are not as useful for wall murals, unless we try to apply the next do it yourself trick. - Transparency Wall Murals
Have you ever worked with an overhead projector or better yet a digital LCD projector? Either one can help you take any image, even a small paint by number kit, and project the image on a wall. This technique does require some tricks which I describe in an article called "Creating Wall Murals Using Projecters" (In progress). - Using Stencil Wall Murals to Enhance Room Decor (Link)
I have put together a page on using stencils. The page talks about Stencil Murals and discusses effective techniques that can be used to create wall murals. - Advanced Techniques for Creating Murals
If you are ready to take the leap and try some other methods, I have provided links to a number of resources for creating wall murals on the resource page.
