My poor mother is often in the middle of preparing a holiday meal when these gatherings occur. By the end, her workspace is overtaken. She is forced to shoo us all away with threats of withholding the holiday breads. Such is the draw of a family kitchen. The room draws us as children to gain energy for what is to come and draws us as adults to fill our desire for what once was.
