Wall Murals for Decorating Teen Rooms

Decorating Teen Rooms with Teen Murals

Your Teen Bedroom Decor at Home

If you are just joining us, welcome. I imagine many of you looking for ideas are teenagers. A special welcome to you! In this section of the site, I would like to explore decorating a teen bedroom by utilizing wall murals. Keep in mind that murals by this sites definition also may include framed art and posters. We define a mural this way because many teens may wish to hang a number of posters in their room that cover a wide range of topics in addition to having a more permanent wall mural present.

So let me ask the teens in our audience a quick question. What are you crazy about? What really gets you excited? Boys is a valid answer, but I also want you to think outside of relationships for a second. Give me an answer that relates to a hobby, a sport, a topic you love learning about, or even a location you love to go.

Now imagine if you could cover an entire wall in your bedroom with that topic. Would that be cool? When I was a teenager and actually even today, basketball is a thing that really gets me excited. I love to play the game and did so in high school. Looking back, I wish I had replaced the forest mural in my room with a mural of an empty basketball court with one ball on the court waiting for me to grab and start shooting. That would have been really cool. The basketball mural would have allowed me to easily visualize myself on the court playing. For a fanatic, that is a dream come true! So what are you fanatical about??

There are so many things to be crazy about. If you don't have a topic that you are crazy about, consider the reason for that. One key to happiness is excitement about something that is outside of yourself that you can sink your energy into. What are some things that might fall into this definition?

  • Sports- I've already mentioned basketball, but there are many other sports you may be fanatical about, volleyball, soccer, softball, baseball, football, or running.
  • Theatre- Do you dream of singing on broadway or acting in a major hollywood movie? Why not dedicate a wall or two in your room to your dream. Wall murals can help you capture the visual perspective of being on stage.
  • Your Faith- Are you excited about God? There are some cool murals and pictures that you can use to keep your perspective focused on Him.
  • Your Future Profession- Do you dream of being a pilot, a doctor, an engineer(I definitely like that dream!!), a nurse, or a mother? Why not provide pictures that remind you of your dream.
  • Favorite Hobby- Is there a hobby you love to spend time at? Than provide a creative environment in your bedroom to pursue that hobby.

These are just a few examples of the areas that really could get you excited. What I recommend is making that interest the centerpiece of your room. Also leave wall space for the hip styles you are interested in. For example, is their a cool movie you saw that you'd like a poster for than get it and put it on another wall keeping your true interest the center. Now whenever you have a new artist or celebrity or movie you want to remember you can put up a new poster without disturbing your focus wall. I've provided some links to some fun sites where you can pick up the posters and other prints you'll need to complete your room.

Dorm Room Decoration..It is Possible!

So you are off to college!! Congratulations and prepare to have fun and study hard. I remember clearly the day I left for college. I was so excited! You know, I loved my parents, but man was I ready to be out on my own. It was time. So picture this.... it was a clear, hot August day in Iowa at about 6:00am in the morning. I had loaded my Honda Civic with all my worldy possessions. The only space left was a four inch gap at the roof of the car that allowed me to see out the back. Climbing into the driver's seat, I waved one last time at my Ma and Pa outside the car. Quickly, I was zipping down the road with my favorite music playing on the radio. I was finally going to college! For me, the drive was a little over fourteen hours as I made my way south to Texas A&M University.

When I arrived, I was exhausted but still pumped about finally arriving. Hopping out of my car, I headed upto the dorm building that would be my home for the next nine months. The outside was rather non-descript, but I didn't notice that much since a basketball court was located twenty feet from my front door. I was in heaven! Than I bounded up the stairs into the wing of the dorm where my room was located. My room was on the first floor. The first thing that assaulted me was the heat. I had somehow managed to be assigned to one of only three dorms left on campus without air conditioning! "Yeh right, you have to be kidding," was all I could think when I received the assignment. Well there I was and the Texas heat was real, real intense. Ten steps later and a turn to the left I was in my dorm room. I thought I'd stepped into hell!! Not only was the heat sweltering, but the dead bugs and dirt didn't help my initial first impressions. I'll be honest, the next two months were tough. The thing that began to make the room livable, besides the cooler weather, was the personal touches I added. This included posters and other wall hangings. If I had thought of it, a mural could definitely have transformed the dorm room into one of the coolest pads in the building. For me, what I had done helped get me through that first semester.

Going to college is exciting and the temptation some of you may have is to completely re-create yourself. You thought high school sucked, living at home became a drag, and now you are free. This may be the case, but you may find that bringing life into your dorm room thru decorating with wall hangings that represent your interests will allow you to be free, but also allows you to hold onto some of the things that make you excited about life!

So how about some ideas? I've tried to put together a short list of ideas. However, you may have an idea that is way more cool than something I could come up with. Why not share that with us? We'd love to be able to share your idea with others who visit this site.
